Indulge in Sophie’s perfectly tested recipe for rich, chewy double chocolate chip cookies. A classic comfort treat with a mindful, homemade twist, ideal for family and satisfying sweet cravings.

Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups white sugar

1 cup butter, softened

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

⅔ cup cocoa powder

¾ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

½ cup chopped walnuts (Optional)

Instructions

1. Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. Beat sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl until light and fluffy.

3. Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl; stir into butter mixture until well blended.

4. Stir chocolate chips and walnuts into dough until evenly distributed.

5. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

6. Bake in the preheated oven just until set, 8 to 10 minutes.

7. Cool slightly on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For the best results, ensure your butter is truly softened (but not melted) to achieve that light and fluffy texture when creamed. Don’t overmix the dough once the flour is added; this can make cookies tough. For an extra touch of flavor and texture, consider toasting your walnuts lightly before adding them. These cookies freeze beautifully, both as baked cookies and raw dough balls!
