  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 24 maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
  • 24 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and almond extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Gently press a maraschino cherry into the center of each cookie.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from oven and immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Soft, buttery cookies subtly flavored with almond and topped with a sweet cherry and a Hershey’s Kiss. A perfect Valentine’s Day treat!
