A decadent, easy cookie recipe that captures the warm, spiced flavor and soft, chewy texture of a cinnamon roll, topped with a rich cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

1/2 cup white granulated sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

For Rolling

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons sugar

For Frosting

3 oz. cream cheese (room temperature, full-fat)

5 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)

1 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. In a small mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.

2. In a larger bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).

3. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until fully mixed and smooth.

4. Stir in the dry ingredients until just combined—do not overmix.

5. Mix the rolling sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.

6. Scoop dough into 1-tablespoon balls and roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Slightly flatten.

7. Place cookies on baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart. Flatten to about 1/3-inch thick.

8. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are set but centers look soft.

9. Cool completely on a wire rack.

10. For the frosting, beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.

11. Pipe or spread frosting over cooled cookies. Sprinkle extra cinnamon if desired.

Notes

Flattening Hack: Place parchment paper over the cookie dough balls, then lay another baking sheet on top and press lightly for perfectly even cookies.

Temperature is Key: Make sure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for the best soft texture in both dough and frosting.
