  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together buttermilk, red food coloring, and white vinegar.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set.
  • Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
