  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 24 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a small bowl, combine buttermilk, red food coloring, and vinegar.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Beat until just combined.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set and centers are slightly soft.
  • Immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie.
  • Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
