Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.

4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

5. Divide the dough in half and tint one half with red food coloring until desired color is achieved.

6. Roll out both dough portions into logs and place them side by side.

7. Twist the dough logs together and roll them in sprinkles to coat the outside.

8. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

9. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

10. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

11. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.

12. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
