Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 5-7 tablespoons Milk
  • Gel Food Coloring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disc, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 2 hours (or overnight).
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.
  • Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges. Don’t overbake.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a bowl until smooth. Add gel food coloring to achieve desired colors.
  • Once the cookies are completely cool, frost them with the colored frosting and decorate with sprinkles.
  • Allow the frosting to set before storing the cookies in an airtight container.
