Sweet, soft cinnamon rolls packed with colorful sprinkles and topped with a creamy frosting.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm (not hot) milk regular milk or non-dairy
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup melted butter regular or non-dairy
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 3 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt plain and unsweetened
  • 2 ½ cups regular all purpose flour or 2 cups gluten-free all purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup softened butter regular or non-dairy
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles add more as needed
  • 2 tablespoon softened butter regular or non-dairy
  • 2 oz cream cheese regular or non-dairy
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing the warm milk, melted butter, maple syrup, and salt together.
  2. Sprinkle the active dry yeast evenly across the top of the mixture.
  3. Stir gently.
  4. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
  5. Add the flour (2 ½ cups of regular flour or 2 cups of gluten-free flour).
  6. Mix until a dough forms.
  7. If using gluten-free flour, use your hands to work in the non-dairy yogurt into the dough.
  8. Leave the dough in the bowl.
  9. Form the dough into a round mound.
  10. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel.
  11. Allow the dough to sit for an hour to rise.
  12. After the dough has risen, place it on a floured surface.
  13. Roll the dough into a ¼ inch oval or rectangle.
  14. Spread the softened butter to cover the dough.
  15. Top with the sugar.
  16. Top with the rainbow sprinkles.
  17. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  18. Roll the dough into a log.
  19. Cut the log into about 10 pinwheels (or use a pizza cutter to slice strips and roll each into a pinwheel).
  20. Place the pinwheels into a baking dish so they are close but not touching.
  21. Cover the pinwheels with a towel.
  22. Set aside for another 30 minutes for a second rise.
  23. Remove the towel.
  24. Bake the rolls in the oven for about 35 minutes for regular rolls, or 25-30 minutes for gluten-free rolls (or until golden).
  25. While the rolls are baking, make the cream cheese frosting.
  26. Use an electric hand mixer to mix together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and cream cheese.
  27. Allow the rolls to cool slightly.
  28. Spread the icing over the rolls.
