  29. Roll them into one large ball, creating a swirl.

  31. Place the swirled dough balls on the prepared baking sheets.
  32. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the edges appear set and the centers still look soft.
  33. If cookies are not spreading by minute 9, remove from oven and lightly bang the baking sheet on the counter 2–3 times.
  34. Return to the oven to continue baking.
  35. Cool cookies for 5 minutes on the baking sheet.
  36. Optionally, press a few more chocolate chips into the tops of the warm cookies for looks.
  37. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. The cookies will slightly deflate as they cool.

Notes

Always spoon and level your flour to ensure accurate measurements and prevent dry cookies.
Don’t skip chilling the dough; it prevents overspreading and makes the dough easier to handle.
Use room temperature ingredients, especially butter and eggs, for a smooth, well-emulsified dough.
If your chocolate dough is too sticky, a quick wipe of your hands with a damp cloth between shaping balls helps a lot.
