Soft, chewy, and festive, these double chocolate chip M&M cookies are perfect for beginners and holiday baking. A truly delightful and simple recipe to master.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup butter softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 small box instant vanilla pudding mix – dry not prepared, (one 3.4 ounce box, it must be INSTANT – not cook and serve, etc)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup red and green M&M candies

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and sugar for 1-2 minutes until fluffy.
  2. Add vanilla and egg to the creamed mixture.
  3. Mix well until fully combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, vanilla pudding mix, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just incorporated.
  6. Stir in most of the chocolate chips, reserving a few for later.
  7. Cover the dough.
  8. Chill the dough for at least one hour in the refrigerator.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Very lightly grease a baking sheet.
  11. Roll about 3 tablespoons of cookie dough into a ball (about the size of a golf ball).
  12. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  13. Gently press the remaining reserved chocolate chips and M&Ms into the top of each cookie dough ball.
  14. Bake for 9-12 minutes until the cookies are set but still slightly underdone in the center.
  15. Allow the cookies to cool for at least 10 minutes on the baking sheet.
  16. Transfer the cooled cookies to a cooling rack to finish cooling completely.
  17. Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

Always use softened butter, not melted, for the best cookie texture.
Don’t skip the dough chilling step; it prevents spreading and enhances flavor.
Measure your flour accurately by spooning it into the measuring cup and leveling it off.
For a picture-perfect cookie, press extra chips and M&Ms onto the dough balls before baking.
